While the decision allows Garmin to offer smaller downloads that require less on-device storage and quicker download and syncing times, as well as automatic access to the latest map updates, the trade-off is that users must be in areas with data service coverage in order for the application to function properly.I thought there were some free map/gps/turn-by-turn direction apps out there (ala Google Maps).

Just received my 64GB 3G iPad from AT&T online, so I don't feel like I missed out. $529 for the previous top of the line model was to good to pass up.
I was intending to wait for the iPad 2, but for $29 more than the 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2, I was able to get the 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G iPad 1. :)

No, PN is when the Apple Push Notification server tells your phone you have a notification. The apps do not need to be running. Its suppose to save you battery life by not having multiple apps open all the time.
so then how will it work exactly when i turn all the PN's on? Will i get alerts in the form of a text message? or will it have a little number in the corner of the app??

Hey!
I'm a new freelance photographer (just upgraded to a Canon 7D) and I was hoping to take some photos of the iPad 2 launch at the Apple Retail Store in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday 25th March.
I have seen one or two photographers there before for previous launches so there must be some interest by the newspapers/magazines.
I am prepared to do this for free as it would at least get my name out there, however I was wanting to contact the newspapers and magazines first to see if I could get their permission to cover the event for them. This could perhaps get me a pass to take photos inside the Apple Store too.
If all else fails, Ill turn up, take some photos outside (which is a public place) and email them in to the newspapers/magazines.
What I'm wondering is how do I contact them in the first place? Either to ask if they would like me to cover the launch for them or to submit photos to them after the event.
Any help would be much apprenticed.

I have a job, I take care of my family, I pay my bills, I'm not slicing co-eds' throats in the middle of the night, I'm not selling guns to Middle Eastern nutballs -- so at what point does the Holier-Than-Me crowd take me off its speed-dial? They say it's all about Personal Responsibility and yet when I achieve my Decent Member Of Society Merit Badge, they're still telling me how to live, and more to the point, what my wife does with her body.

this has nothing to do with iPads i suppose but a co-worker and I at lunch yesterday had our iPhones out (me ATT & Co-worker VZW) he could not get any bars and therefore his apps were useless for 3G (we were trying a GPS Map) and I got on and got teh voice commands within 30 seconds. I had 4 bars, he had none. He said his Verizon iPhone was about useless for any service. he had ATT before but the company has a Verizon plan and his phone is company paid...

Thanks for the screenshots.
Slightly concerned that some services appear to be either missing altogether or lacking in functionality.
Hopefully we'll see them appear before the final version appears. It seems from the look of those screenshots that a lot of stuff has been re-written from the ground up.
I'm liking the look of the new web based features :)

lol, this thread is hilarious. how about as she's walking back just lightly step up your pace and que your right arm in the air and say "miss.. yes miss?! i would like your help" then she has to help you.. and then be all like, "now see im sick of these silly games with you running the back b/c you think im stalking you so why don't we just go out eh? i mean when it comes down to it, this whole situation with you going to the back of the store everytime i come in is pretty hilarious, don't you think?" then hope for the best i guess haha :p

I am not saying CR has no understanding of technology, however, Their fourth choice was Centrum.
They have gone back and forth over the years on how to test electronics. So many things are subjective, including picture quality, audio quality, gui usage quality....and they generally try to use "regular" people as the point. So they rate pretty much all HDTVs as having high points for video quality, even though there are clearly standouts to videophiles. And don't even get me started on speakers.
You really can't use CR as anything more than a single data point. You must find other data points to do research. But that doesn't mean CR is worthless, just shouldn't be your only tool.

Damn, if it has the same graphics engine as the ipad 2 rendering'll be a bit more than the 9x faster than the iPhone 4 (lower pixel count)
What the heck are people going to do with that sort of performance? That'll bring AR to a whole new level. 2x overall speed increase? It's already plenty fast. It's going to be a bit ridiculous - at this rate the network bottleneck is going to get even worse.

I just software stripped 2 * 160Gb Hitachi SATA in XP and got 100 MB/Sec from Sandra. so it works!
