Has anybody really tried to get a mortgage recently? I have been denied by 8 lenders so far simply because I don't have a green card. Most lenders have tightened their underwriting guidelines. They will give mortgages only to U.S.Citizens or somebody who is a permanent resident aka having a green card. There are very very few lenders who will give mortgages to somebody on a visa and the rates may not be very favorable.
Regardless of your credit history/income/financial strength/savings there is almost no credit available in the market. Whether you want to buy a house or you want credit for a small business, there is no credit b'coz the lenders do not want to lend. That's the crisis. And if there is no credit, willing and able buyers, just like yourself will not be able to buy a house.
Administration wants $700 billion to buy bad mortgages (5% of the entire outstanding mortgages), which will inject confidence in the lending agencies, whereby easing the credit market, allowing everyone to get a loan and do whatever they have to do. But it doesn't end their, to recover from the economic slum, housing market must come back. And to bring the housing market, there needs to be more buyers in the market. As Alan Greenspan said few months back, speed-up GC, it will help bring buyers to the market, helping to bring back the housing.
After $700 Billion bail-out, the credit market will start to stabilize and it will be easier to get mortgage.

Illegal action by USCIS causes $ 300 million loss in a single day to Legal & Skilled Immigrants ( Doctors, Engineers & Scientists ) not counting the hardships.
Skilled immigrants like Doctors, Engineers & Scientists have been paying all the taxes, following all the laws of the land and have been stuck in huge wait period of 3- 7 years to obtain green card.
On 13th of June 07, USCIS announced that all these people stuck for years can apply for the green card starting 2nd July 07. Everyone spent 2 weeks & $3000 per person at the minimum towards Attorney fees, medical tests & other unsalvageable direct costs prepared the application and started to send it to USCIS starting 2nd July 07.
In an unusual act of absolute disregard to the hardships and financial loss of these applicants, USCIS announced on the morning of 2nd July 07 that they will not accept any application for green card.
A COMPLETE REVERSAL OF THEIR EARLIER PLOICY ON THE VERY 1st DAY OF THE WINDOW ANNOUNCED BY THEMSELVES.
If nobody takes an action to support law abiding legal immigrants at this time, everyone talking about supporting the laws of the land on immigration issue needs to look into his / her own eyes in the mirror.
What we demand . Talk to USCIS & encourage them to ATLEAST accept the applications sent by these innocent Skilled Immigrants so that they do not suffer at least the financial loss. USCIS can take their own time to award the green card at a later date

Nixtor, this idea is worth trying. If people who are buyinh house can be exempted from the VB quota, this will free up extra visas and will help those people who will not buy a house.

Ivar and group,
...............................
My suggestion here is that let the outsourcers take the hit. They have always benefitted by flouting the rules. If your concern is way too high for your L1 brothers then you would find it prudent to bring in the law that clearly states "Pay high wages for the L1s or dont bring them in here". ..........................................
dilipcr,
Please wake up from your dream. No matter how you want it, outsourcing won't go away.
Outsourcing companies will always provide a lower cost to client as long as dollar is valuable than rupee ( or any other developing world currency).
They can do this by one of the following ways.
Use L1s for client site assignments. Some of these maybe illegal. Still they do it. Client is happy, outsourcers are happy.
Let us say everybody complains to ICE about this and L1 visas are unavailable for outsourcers. Their next strategy is to change the ratio of onsite resources to offshore resources. Again they will offer a cheaper solution to client. For executing a project in onsite/offshore model they don't need all these L1 guys here. They just need a few managers and maybe some team leads. They can execute the project with minumum resources onsite. Company and client wins again. The only reason they place so many resources onsite is to charge the client at dollar rate.
If US wants to prevent offshoring they have to ban offshoring explicitly. Doing so will go against the WTO rules.
To summarize, outsourcing cannot be stopped. Salary levels will always go down with time.

Have you checked the latest news about USCIS Ombudsman's Mr. ? Here I am not talking on the behalf of senior members, if some leaders come forward, make efforts to sue USCIS, I don't doubt about the moral support from entire IV community including senior members.
Once it is law suit, USCIS is the system since it is what created this wastage of visa numbers.
Yup, the news about Mr 's resignation is unfortunate.
The case should be drafted in such a way that it shoud try to recapture the visa number , and not blaming USCIS for it. i agree its the USCIS fault , wasting the immigrant visas, but even if USCIS wants it can not recapture those numbers , because there is law which stops USCIS from doing that , We need to file a lawsuit to change that law.

It will be a waste of money. The US does not have to allow any immigration if it chooses so. Do you realize that getting a GC is not a right, but a privelege? It's a matter of grace and no court has jurisdiction to review if government says "no".
How much money are we talking about here? an hour of a top attorney's time is quite affordable!

And what reason might that be? To be born in an insanely ridiculously pathetically gutterish country like India you need to have been a sinner in your previous life.
Have some respect for your motherland. The country may have its problems and it may be heading for the worse - thanks to our politicians. You can point it out and take actions like emigrate elsewhere. But you dont have to get insultive and abusive of the soil you grew up on. In doing so, you only show the meekness of your character.

Recently , Immi officers are randomly dashing thru H1B sponsor companies ,where any H1B petitions have gone thru or waiting for renewal. NJ -
So guess its getting tougher - They have set of questions - from POEntry date with eaxct details of the petitioner.
How many H1's the company has issued , salary matching with Tax copies.
Guess - if the company has no base or structure , the so called employees name inot there physically or the whereabouts .
This happened today a checking in NJ. All the papers should be in hand

The other provision of allowing 485 applications without current PDs is a bad idea in my opinion. Anyone who enters the country will be eligible for AC21 in 8 months which is about 80% of a GC. Such a provision will result in huge abuse like the L visa and/or Labor substitution.
On the flip side, Spouses on dependent visas who had plenty of experience and who were stuck for years by not being able to work. The provision to apply for 485 applications in july was god send opportunity.

says:Mr. Iyer’s account should be an eye-opener for those who believed that the TDP lost in Andhra because its programmes had no human face. The face of YSR unmasked by the author is that of a monster and the way the man has worked his way up to become the Chief Minister shows the farcical character of Indian democracy. We wish Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh spare time to go through this account to know the breed of the horses the Congress party had been backing in the electoral race. It is hard to believe that with the intelligence network at their disposal they were unaware of the criminal background of the man who succeeded Chandrababu Naidu. When we compare the two characters, one the promoter of E-governance and the other the promoter of heinous crimes and corruption we get the uneasy feeling that in India democracy is being raped rather than respected. Leave Andhra alone. Even the Lok Sabha is dominated by criminals whose only qualification is that they are not yet judicially convicted. There is Soren, the Mining Minister, charged for murdering 10 persons in 1975 awaiting to be arrested and hand-cuffed by the Police. Then, of course, we have a number of charge-sheeted under-trials set free on bail including the great Lalu who are Cabinet ministers. Obviously, under compulsion of coalition politics, Dr. Manmohas Singh has no control over these ministers. Depending on the numerical strength of their parties in the Lok Sabha, they dare come out with their own policy announcements every now and then taking the approval of the Prime Minister and the concerned Cabinet Committees for granted on the plea that their decisions were within the confines of the CMP directly or by implication. Paswan’s policy regarding control over production, pricing and distribution of steel, Lalu’s announcement to have Godhra carnage investigated again, DMK coercing the UPA Govt, to release Cavery water for Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister of Andhra (YSR) announcing 5 per cent reservation for Muslims, Chief Minister of Punjab legislating against Sutlej-Yamuna canal project are some of the examples to show that the UPA Govt. is virtually sitting on the edge. On top it, there is the Left occupying the driver’s seat commandeering the UPA Govt. We have a feeling that this Govt. is living on borrowed time and might fall sooner than later..: Sharad C. Misra.

It happens everywhere. Politicans bank on these stars - stars get along well with businessmen, politicians fight and then kiss each other. Stars marry, divorce, remarry - and the list goes on.
Come on, it happens everywhere, not only in India. How many times do you not see 80 year old rich businessman marrying 26 year old beautiful model?
Look at how the bailout money has gone to those people who screwwed the economy.
The reason you think India has issues that other countries do not have is because you are still not stepping out of your Indian shoes.
Go out with your American friends for a drink and discuss these issues - for every issue you discuss - you will get a parallel American counter issue that is similar in nature.
There is nothing called "absolute" in this world and you will realise it now or later. Live in a country side with a constant income and you will find life peaceful because you are not bothered by what is happening.
Or try helping people - and do social service - you will realise that it is a dangerous and thankless job.
Democracy is "not exactly" how it sounds. Unfortunately, life is not fair to anyone and one has to live in within his/her means.
Crying foul over all such stuff will not bring changes. Working within parameters to bring about changes is "unfortunately" the only way how changes have come to the "Mother Earth"
snathan - you are a very strong vocal person and have great thoughts. You must utilize your "good hearted nature" not to point fingers but to see how best you can utilize and grab opportunities for betterment.
There are worse things happening in places like congo and African countries, small girls being raped , civil wars , and so many things.
Diseases are spreading, sanitation is bad, farmers are facing drought - so many things happening. Lets not blame SOME PEOPLE for all this. it is us collectovely who can bring about change.
Do you mean to say if one american actor/actress is frisked away at Mumbai or delhi airport, americans will go to street and burn the indian flag..? GOA will go after the indian security and customs...? I am not blaming anything about SRK. I am blaming common man, GOI....most importantly the OP who started the thread for SRK....well this is my last post here and I dont want to waste my time on a useless issue.

How about saying " buying a house" with good credit.

I spoke to two immigration attorneys about how this may affect pending I-140 cases with the USCIS and this is the reply I received:
Response 1:
I am aware of the proposed rule (and the DOL link you sent me). But this applies only to pending labor certification applications and to approved labor certification applications not yet filed with USCIS. Neither one of these situations applies in your case. Of course the elimination of substitution is a proposed rule only and no one can tell exactly if and when and how the final rule will come out.
Response 2:
Highly unlikely that this change would affect a case that was already filed.
Just to be safe I will request to convert to PP.

In the first three quarter the 'heavy' countries(India/China) would get numbers until the 7% caps hits and in the fourth quarter they would get the big chunck...
If the law contains a 'continous recapture' provision( anything not used this year get recaptured again immediately for next year...) then it would not be long befor e all categories become current....By the way 'continous recapture' is one of the IV goals...
Pl. Correct me if I am wrong....
Now I have really started to appreciate the IV goals listed on the front page.....
IV core team have gone through all this junk long before we got started and the goals take care of every point raised until now....
As a business person; I don't agree with country limits. I understand why they are there but I don't think they should be.
Continuous recapture of unused visas is a good goal. It makes sense and isn't a controversial topic.
Regarding: Goals - very few people look out for the greater good of everyone. I myself think if I was looking out for the greater good of everyone; I wouldn't focus on EB relief but rather other areas of immigration (greencard holder spouse issue; dream act, undocumented, etc.). Don't jump on me for saying this but I had written in another posting that of all the people who are disadvantaged with immigration; it would appear that eb candidates are the least disadvantaged of all.

Also no I never went through the numbers from VHP/RSS.As some one from Hyderabad I'm very well aware about how good the official stats are.I'm aware of the tricks wherein a minority family of 15 says they are just 4 .
A quick fact check : Muslims are about 13.5% and christians are about 2% of india's population. So instead of 30% of india belonging to these two groups per your numbers, it is actually closer to 15%.
I must say you defined yourself right.Educated Illiterate.I'll give that one to you.
A lie told 100 times can be made to look like truth. You can throw this crap at any anyone trying to reason out sense into your types.
Empty stomachs were refused food post tsunami until they agreed to take up certain religion by the so called preachers of religion. Post Tsunami many villages (entire villages) were abused and converted.(People who lost almost everything in the calamity suddenly have all the time in the world to think about religious freedom and conversion volunraity right?)
Just know this you are fooling no one with words like secularism, religious freedom which you use when it suits you.
Quite a religious freedom .
You have something sensible to say start saying with facts. Not with that tried out 'spreading fear and hatred' crap.
It is religious freedom, not religious conversion. And thanks for enlightening us about the global plan to decimate indians by racking up numbers on their side. Are all of the indians coming to US have a similar plan because I am not aware of it.
Spreading fear and hatred using lies and stoking communal feeling to get votes is nothing new. Seeing educated people do it with such fervour is new.
Shows your desperation. Please don't turn this into personal attack or religious attack.Talk sensible stuff or resign.I won't take your personal digs.

When India shines with the efforts of sensible people you shine too(only to come to US and talk about 'fear and hatred crap')
If India sinks because of your illiterate tactics, know this, you may be fine but there will scores of people from all religions in not so good situation as the selfish breed like you would be in.

But you get those numbers from VHP/RSS. Check it tomorrow and it could be close to 40% !

That's why I say read everything I write then you wouldn't be here with your rant about hate crap.
Also no I never went through the numbers from VHP/RSS.As some one from Hyderabad I'm very well aware about how good the official stats are.I'm aware of the tricks wherein a minority family of 15 says they are just 4 .

All!
Will the no labor substitution clause will affect in any way for the following situation -
1. Company A - labor cleared, approved I-140 and now moving onto Company B. Can the old labor PD be ported to the new labor certification and new I-140 approval with Company B.
I am assuming that the labor cannot be used for anyone within Company A. Right ?
What are your thoughts.
Thanks.
