They should have blown the budget and got Beat Takeshi or Sunny Chiba as the PC and later Chiaki Kuriyama could come in as the girl.
And then Godzilla somehow.
Damn I love Japanese cinema.

It doesn't stop people from being interested in reading about carrier fumbles. It's like watching a slow motion train wreck.
Nor does it stop people from letting their fingers fly on the keyboard before they know all the facts.

This may just be the beginning. The article in Wired talks about "Data Hogs" and how ATT has been trying to get them to throttle back their usage. How, I don't know. I've been noticing more and more dropped calls on 3G as of late, so much that I have to disable it just to be able to make and complete a call.
Think about it for a second: if this were really an effort to reduce network traffic, it would be a piss-poor way of going about it. For one thing, denying the iPhone to new customers would be far less dependable than throttling data speed. For another, they're closing down only one of many distribution channels, meaning that people in NYC will still be able to get all the iPhones they want. Finally, this would be a public admission that their network is insufficient...and more fodder for the Verizon commercials. You can't tell me that that's not first in every AT&T Wireless executive's mind right now.
I don't know what's going on -- everything is just speculation based on what some low-level AT&T employees (probably new ones who couldn't get out of the holiday shift) said. And I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. I'm just saying that the Consumerist's interpretation doesn't make much sense.
But, if it was really about fraud in certain areas - wouldn't that mean that you can't purchase ANY phone from ATT online? Why would it only apply to the iPhone?

Yea! And limit their new OS to about 20% of their users.
Not that I can back it up by any numbers, but I would assume that more than 20% of the Macs out there that can run Lion have a USB port ....
EDIT: well, I just saw that the original post was limiting to Thunderbold ... ok, we are not there yet with 100% thunderbolt
"how" doesnt really bother me, only "when"
very well said ... maybe they can make everyone happy by offering the choice between:
- download (MAS or whatever other means)
- USB stick
- DVD
I just think now is the time to think about the future and offer options according to that (along with being the DVD an optional accessory on new Macs). DVDs are just no longer needed for the masses.
so everyone can pick his/her favorite based on their needs and their future plans (I for sure will skip the DVD)

I believe he's referring to headsets that don't have the audio in and out jack combined into one (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2036282). The line-in port on Macs does not have any power to support a microphone. This is why the Griffin iMic exists.
Since the Mic port turned into Line-In, there hasn't been any power on the port, requiring a powered input or amp. However, on the Headset jacks that support the iPhone mic on them, do have a built-in mic, even on the MacBook, but only when using the 3rd sleeve that the iPhone mic cable has.

The "Three Phase Cycle"
1) Rumors circulate about a "new" size of iPad, or iPhone (for example).
2) Fan-boys immediately become emotional and negative, spewing hate, denial, and opinions on why it's a really bad Idea.
3) Rumors turn to reality, Uncle Steve blesses it. Suddenly like a miracle, the fan-boys do an about face, sucking up to Uncle Steve and heaping praise on the "Brilliant Idea Invented By Apple".
What a Hilarious, Goofy Kind of Entertainment the Fan-Boys provide... :)
Two new models, a "high end" and a smaller "low end" model???
Already exists. They are called the 8gb iPhone 3GS for $99, and the 32gb iPhone 4 for $299.
Close, but not so much.
Two models, that are so close to each other in form factor, functionality, and usefulness, that it's not the same as high end, low end.
The rumor if true will bring momentum back to Apple, something they could use about now. Oh sure, the current product is selling quite well, but under very well manipulated and fabricated "facts".
Apple is the master of marketing, hype, manipulation and getting what they want (read "Apple Tax"). They are also smart enough to know that they must freshen up the iPhone beyond the "wow" factor which wears off quickly.

You don't need to spend 3,000 to get an extremely fast mac right now try 1,600-1,700.

Because most Apple products have hardware AND software so you might not know where to look for your specific issue/for the information you want.
For example if I was looking up information on the iPod Touch, there will be information on the hardware and information on the software, but they will be in different places.
It is possible to guide the user to the correct information that they're looking for just with decently written Guides and smart use of redirects.
Example:
Problem: The iPod touch is a subset of the iPhone and does not entirely warrant its own article.
Solution: Automatically redirect users from /iPod_Touch to /iPhone#iPod_Touch
Problem: User wants to look up information on the iPod touch's hardware.
Solution: Redirect user from /iPod_Touch to /iPhone#iPod_Touch
Problem: User wants to look up information on the iPod touch's software.
Solution: Redirect user from /iPod_Touch to /iPhone#iPod_Touch and place an iPod Touch Software link at the start of the section which redirects to /iPhone_OS.
Err, well I'm not making suggestions that that's the exact place they should redirect or anything, but I'm making a point that it's possible to guide the user to the place that they are looking for.

I would think that by the time Intel do inflict the P5 upon that we'll be if not running machines with Apples next generation PPC at that time, then they'll be right around the corner......
And yep I joined akira's site...... although I won't be using it like I do mr...... and as akira said, it's not a rumour site, it's a discussion and problem site about current technical issues and hardware and software...... Actually Dale - hats off to you for resurrecting the challenge. While I enjoy many of the threads in MR, this is by far the one of greatest interest to me. Taking on a challenge and working to achieve it in an image; getting specific feedback from others ... these are invaluable. Thanks much.
Now to figure out "beauty in unexpected places". this one is, for me, a much harder concept. At least, to do so without being cliche.

I thought you guys in the USA encouraged free enterprise !!!
Even if these goods came from Foxconn (which I doubt) if Apple ordered some items then rejected them (and I assume didn't pay for them) they would still belong to Foxconn. If Foxconn threw them away then they abandoned title to them and they cant be stolen.
Last time I looked it was not illegal to export to the USA so as long as the tax man gets his share of the profit what's the problem?
I think it's more likely he just had them copied.
Sheesh, what happened to innocent till proven guilty ? Its not for him to prove anything.

RAW handling in OSX is done by the operating system, so updates to RAW support imply updates to OSX as well.
I think this is sort of true in Aperture but not 100% true. Aperture has it's own RAW decoders (1.0 and 1.1 versions) which are separate from the system and run in Core Image. I believe that it relies on the system support for colour profile data only...

And the world is full of computer super users like us?
If they do it through the App Store it will be a download that you double click and it will either:
A. Make a partition it can book off (AKA restore partition - not a fan personally, i'd delete mine after installation if they did this).
B. Ask for a USB stick or DL-DVD to be written to to allow installation normally.
It will be a minimal click affair. Steps: Where do you want it installed from, enter your password, get a cup of tea.
Once that step is over it will continue as the DVD would one it has restarted.
When developers download and install Lion from the App Store, it does create a recover partition. No need to burn it to a disk or restore to USB, but of course you can if you want.
I would gladly pay a $15 premium to get Lion on a flash drive. DVD-based installs are just too slow and painful.
